Summary:
PI Jake Longly and Nicole Jamison head to New Orleans at the behest of Nicole’s uncle, movie producer Charles Balfour, when his megastar, A-list actor Kirk Ford, awakens in his hotel bed with the body of Kristi Guidry, a local college coed. Ford, in the Big Easy for a location shoot, remembers little of the evening and nothing of the murder. And, to make matters worse, Kristi is the niece of a local mafioso-type who will do whatever is necessary to avenge her death. Balfour is losing money every day the filming is stalled—he needs his actor cleared, and quickly.
Surrounded by glitzy Hollywood stars and intimidated by seedy underworld characters, Jake and Nicole encounter nothing but obstacles. Something isn’t right. The facts don’t fit. Who would want Kristi dead? Why frame Kirk for the murder? Everyone has an opinion, including Kristi’s friends and ex-boyfriend, the local homicide detectives, and a fortune-teller. The clock is ticking as Jake and Nicole struggle to decipher who’s lying, who’s telling the truth, and exactly who schemed to murder Kristi Guidry. Nothing is easy in The Big Easy.
My Thoughts on A-List:
I had no idea this book is a sequel but this book can stand on its own without having read the prequel to this.
The story is told in a first person POV and the way it is being narrated by Jake Longly, sounds like he is a high schooler and somewhat like he is writing a diary.
I have to admit, it had a slow start. I don’t like how the dialogues are constructed and there are many redundant ideas that it made me feel like I’ve just started the book even when I was already 200 plus pages in.
I tried liking A List and around 65 percent into the book, I thought I might actually enjoy it but it was only for a few pages and I was bored again. 80% into the book and things finally got interesting.
I wasn’t intrigued enough to want to know who killed Kristi and I was tempted to not finish the book but I’m not a quitter especially when it comes to reading so I finished it. It was obvious to me who killed Kristi and the ending didn’t feel like an ending because it wasn’t stated what happened to the characters after finding out the killer. It just ended with the investigators telling Kirk who killed Kristi and that he is innocent. Maybe I’ll find out in the sequel to this.
I’m sure there are people who might enjoy DP Lyle’s writing style or the plot or the characters in the story but it just didn’t do for me.
Overall, I give this book a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

He was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama where his childhood interests revolved around football, baseball, and building rockets in his backyard. The latter pursuit was common in Huntsville during the 1950’s and 60’s due to the nearby NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center.
After leaving Huntsville, he attended college, medical school, and served an internship at the University of Alabama; followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas at Houston; then a Fellowship in Cardiology at The Texas Heart Institute, also in Houston. For the past 40 years, he has practiced Cardiology in Orange County, California.
He is the co-host, along with Jan Burke, of CRIME AND SCIENCE RADIO on SUSPENSE RADIO.
