Synopsis:

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power – something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is the son of a farmer and an oracle from the frozen nation-planet of Thuvhe. Protected by his unusual currentgift, Akos is generous in spirit, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive – no matter what the cost.

Then Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, and the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?

Favorite Lines:

“The best way to win a fight is to avoid having one.”

“If your enemy is a heavy sleeper, cut his throat before he wakes. If he’s soft-hearted, appeal to his compassion. If he’s thirsty, poison his drink.”

“I liked to practice – not because it made me a stronger fighter, though that was a welcome side benefit – but because I liked how it felt. The heat building, the pounding heart, the productive ache of tired muscles. The pain I chose, instead of the pain that had chosen me.”

“Whatever ease we found together was built on ignoring the facts.”

“Growing up here has made me see the truth about people.”

“Being nice is a matter of survival.”

“Maybe whatever small trust I had felt for Akos, whatever appeal he had held, had come because he offered me relief. Because I was so grateful for the reprieve from pain – and from isolation- that my heart had softened. I had been stupid.”

“It was hard to say whether he wasn’t speaking to me, or I wasn’t speaking to him. In any case, we didn’t exchange words.”

“To continue to love someone so far beyond help, beyond redemption, was madness.”

“But that was just a memory for him. Not even a clear one.”

“It was both a joke and not a joke.”

“The truth can be suppressed but it can never be erased.”

“Everything was loud and hurried, like my heart.”

“I shouldn’t have marveled at the way words could hit me like a hard punch to the stomach. But hope had made me a fool.”

“Of course, but you know, with a mind as dull as mine, I forget things like this all the time.”

“How do you feel about doing me a favor?” “Depends on the favor.”

“See, answering that would be a form of telling you why I want to find her, which I just said I wouldn’t do.”

“Homesick was the wrong word. Lost was the right one – lost out in the nothingness, among people he didn’t understand.”

“I tell lies better than I tell truths.”

“I am a Shotet. I am as sharp as broken glass, and just as fragile. I tell lies better than I tell truths. I see all of the galaxy and never catch a glimpse of it.”

“I just knew that I had spent too long standing still while others warred around me, and it was time to move.”

“Desperate people make stupid decisions all the time.”

“Rain drummed on the roof.”

“What? I don’t have any friends. It gives me a lot of free time.”

“I know what I am. A knife. A hot poker. A rusty nail.”

“I may be a fool, too. But I am not stupid.”

“To unseat your brother and restore Shotet society to what it was before your family soiled it with inequity.”

“Power in one place tended to transfer to power elsewhere.”

“Losing words on the way to his mouth.”

“This body had carried me through a hard life. It looked exactly the way it was supposed to.”

“The gift comes from me. An expression of my personality. My gift unfolded from the deeper parts of me and it would only change as I changed.”

“You saw me as someone better than I was. You told me that I could choose to be different than I had been, that my condition was not permanent.”

My Favorite Lines from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Victoria Aveyard is becoming one of my favorite authors! 😁 In fact, after reading Red Queen, she has already become one! 😄 Her characters are amazing and her words are .

Even though I’m a little late to start reading this series, I’m sure glad I picked this book up! ☺

Red Queen is like a combination of Divergent and The Selection. I love it since it is set in a dystopian setting and I just love dystopian books! 😍

There are already a lot of reviews on this book so what I’m going to share are my favorite lines from Red Queen. 😊

“Words can lie. Look beyond them.”

“Thinking all Sillvers are evil is just as wrong as thinking all Reds are inferior.”

“There’s nothing wrong with being different.”

“I didn’t want to trust him before for this very reason, for the secrets he kept hidden. Or maybe, this is what he was hiding all along … his own heart.”

“He saved me, he brought me home, he broke the rules for me. And he’s a merciless solidier, the heir to a bloody throne.”

“If you know someone’s fear, you know them.”

“Tears sting my eyes, threatening to fall, but I will not cry. I have that much pride left. I can fight the tears but not the questions. Not the doubt growing in my heart.”

“As beautiful as this world is, it’s just as dangerous.”

“Conscription, survival, green-eyed children with quick feet and Kilorn’s last name. That future was almost impossible before; now it’s non-existent.”

“There’s a reason my only friends are written words.”

“Anyone can betray anyone.”

“Make no mistake, my girl,” he finally breathes. “You are playing the game as someone’s pawn.”

“As much as I want to stand still, to stop time and let this moment last forever, I know it’s not possible. Whatever I might feel or think, Cal is not the prince I’m promised to. More important, he’s on the wrong side. He’s my enemy. Cal is forbidden.”

“Cal is a cliff, and I throw myself over the edge, not bothering to think of what it could do to us both.”

“I have to hide her, the scared girl; I have to smile and dance and look like one of them.”

“Once, I feared he would go, and now I wish he would.”

“He knows I’m sinking fast, a stone dropping through the river. And he wants to drown with me.”

“I hurt everyone, especially myself.”

“I hate him. I know that, but something in his eyes and his voice reminds me that my feelings aren’t so simple.”

“I was wrong. About myself, about Cal, about everything. The pain makes my head spin, but somehow I keep myself from falling. He will never choose me.”

“I made him choose. I was eager, I was stupid. I let myself hope. I am a fool.”

“He was too perfect, too brave, too kind. He gave me exactly what I wanted, and it made me blind.”

“It was all a trick, a masterful trick. Every word, every touch, every look was a lie. And I thought I was the liar.”

“I will never make the mistake of loving you ever again.”
